Start your day with a walk on the beach then head to Old Town for some boutique shopping and antiquing at the Rhody Junction. Visit the world famous Sea Lion Caves, the only known remaining home of wild stellar sea lions on the North American mainland. Then, head to the Heceta Head Light and Keeper's House that overlooks the crashing waters of Devil's Elbow, its tide pools and the babbling Cape Creek. Continuing north, you will find the highest point on the Oregon Coast at Cape Perpetua. The Visitor's Center features movies, exhibits and an observation area for whale-watching in December and March.
The Pacific Northwest is known for its fresh seafood and locally sourced foods such as mushrooms, berries, fruits and nuts. A unique and fun part of any northwest vacation should include foraging for local delicacies in the lush forests or bringing in a daily catch of seafood. Florence also offers fresh crab, oysters, clam, salmon at the Krab Kettle or on the docks, in season. Locally grown and harvested produce can be obtained at the Food Co-Op all year, or at the Farmers Market from May – October. Local wineries include the world renown King Estate on the Lorane Wine Trail which also includes Sweet Cheeks Winery, and many more. The restaurant scene has grown from old classics such as Mo’s and ICM to a burgeoning of new offerings in Old Town that will delight your tastebuds. Cuisines featuring local delicacies and selections ranging from Italian to Japanese to Indian to Thai.
The Oregon Dunes Recreation Area stretches 42 miles from Florence to North Bend. With many over 300 feet high, the recreational activities on these massive dunes range from horseback riding to dune buggy tours and ATV rentals. Enjoy lakeside camping and water sports at Woahink, Cleawox, Siltcoos, Tahkenitch and more area lakes. The Siuslaw River offers excellent salmon and steelhead fishing, as well as clamming at the tidal flats in the estuary area along side Highway 126. Two golf courses, amusements, driving range, and bowling alley round out the recreational offerings.
The stunning natural surroundings of the Florence area draws musicians, artists & craftsmen from around the world to create a virtual honeypot of art and entertainment. The Backstreet Gallery’s monthly After Hours party has become a mecca for area art lovers and the Florence Playhouse not only features local theatre talent, but also nurtures young performers through the Children’s Repertory Workshops. To round out the area’s entertainment offerings, The Florence Event Center and Three Rivers Casino feature headline entertainment with the casino also offering free comedy and music every week
